Genetic evaluation

Genetic evaluation is an important tool in breeding work and cattle selection. Currently, most countries use Animal model to estimate breeding values for milk production as a standard method of genetic evaluation. In Slovakia, we use the Test Day Model (TDM), which represents a further development in the estimation of breeding values using animal models. This new approach to estimation of breeding values is based on individual monthly tests and not on 305 days or standard lactations. Since 2004 we have included second and third lactations in the calculation of breeding values.
